Previously on Lost
: John Locke made it off the Island while Jack, Ben, Sun and Desmond made it to Ms. Hawking's church of time travel.
This episode goes old school, opening on an eye. It's Jack's eye, and he wakes up in a suit in the middle of the jungle. Is this a flashback to the “Pilot”? He hears Hurley (Jorge Garcia
) screaming for help and Jack (Matthew Fox
) rushes to help him. He finds Hurley nearly drowning by the waterfall, so he jumps in to save him. OK, this is definitely not a flashback.
They see Kate (Evangeline Lilly
) on the side of the pond and get her. They wake her up, and she asks if they're back. Indeed they are, because Jack, Kate and Hurley are all back on the Island! This show is blowing my G.D. mind. Then Lost
cuts back to 46 hours earlier.
Back not on the Island, Ms. Hawking (Fionnula Flanagan
) takes her guests down to her weird lair of old-fashioned science equipment. She calls it The Lamppost and says it's what the DHARMA Initiative used to find the Island.
Now it's time for exposition. The Lamppost was built over a specific pocket of energy that mirrors similar pockets across the world. One of those other pockets is on the Island, but sadly, the Island is constantly moving though time and is impossible to find. So a mysterious man (possibly named Valenzetti) designed a series of equations to help predict where the Island would be at a specific moment in time. One such window is currently open.
Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick
) is done listening to this nonsense so he yells at Faraday's mom for ruining his life by making him go to the Island. She claims the Island isn't done with him yet, but he's done with it and leaves.
