This is interesting. I'm a little surprised, actually, that this information got leaked. The end of
Lost's fourth season saw Ben show up and tell Jack that the Oceanic 6 needed to reunite. Why? We're not exactly sure. Until now. The latest
Lost spoilers have made their way into the internet tubes, and they are at once baffling and intriguing. They place some fear into my belly, being as big a
Lost fan as I am. I always fear for the direction of the series. Thankfully, every time I've worried about
Lost, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have proved me completely wrong. Hopefully, they'll do it again. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next year for
Lost to prove themselves. And that's a long freaking time. Stupid winter.
LOST SPOILERS BELOW!!! LIKE, TOTALLY MAJOR SPOILERS!!!
So, here's the deal. According to E! Online, the Oceanic 6 need to “fan out” to a bunch of different Dharma stations. However, these Dharma stations are not on the island, but are spread out around the world. Ostensibly, they need to do this in order to find the island one more time. This sounds cool on the surface, but I have some issues with it.
First, I know that
Lost has gone down the science-fiction path more and more as the series has moved along, but this seems a little extreme. It's almost like a video game, with the Oceanic 6 needing to go from level to level. It's hard to believe that the Dharma overlords would set up a bunch of Dharma stations around the world, their sole purpose being able to locate (or transport people to) the island.
Second, if this is really the case, then why would Ben need the entire Oceanic 6? Couldn't he just hire five other people, or only take the members of the Oceanic 6 that he trusts. Sun, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Jack are not on the same page at this point. Complications will arise, complications that a man as smart as Ben could easily avoid by hiring his own people. Perhaps each of the Oceanic 6 members serve a purpose. I'm sure they will, but it feels somewhat contrived.
The idea of having to travel to a bunch of exotic locales in order to find the island is cool. It just has to be handled correctly. Maybe my cynicism is misplaced here. I have faith in
Lost. January cannot come soon enough, fellow
Lost fans.
