We're still many months away from the return of
Lost, but just because the castaway drama is gone doesn't mean it's not on our minds. The Sci Fi Channel recently started re-airing the entire series, and the long-awaited season 4 DVD set will be out on December 9. Even during this epic hiatus between seasons, it's easy to get a quick
Lost fix.
The show may be everywhere, but those of us who have analyzed each episode need something new to keep us occupied. That's why I've put together a list of five great movies starring
Lost actors. Instead of watching "Man of Science, Man of Faith" again, why not check out
Matthew Fox in a live-action anime, or
Terry O'Quinn as an evil stepfather? Spend some time checking out these suggestions, and
Lost season 5 will be here before you know it.
Matthew Fox in Speed Racer
Speed Racer has the distinction of being one of the biggest bombs of the past summer, but that's one particular honor it doesn't deserve. The movie is a candy-colored blast for kids of all ages, and it contains some of the most unique, stylized filmmaking of the year. Fox plays the mysterious Racer X, who may or may not be Speed Racer's brother, and he brings the perfect amount of gravity to the role.
Emilie de Ravin in Brick
The mysterious disappearance of de Ravin's character kicks off this amazing teen noir tale, which features high school students talking like gumshoes from the 1930s. It could have been hokey in the wrong hands, but Rian Johnson's pitch perfect script and clever direction make this one of the best indie films in recent years. The
Lost actress may not have a huge role, but her presence is felt in every scene.
Terry O'Quinn in The Stepfather
Before Terry O'Quinn played the slightly crazy John Locke on
Lost, he took on the role of the extremely crazy Jerry Blake in the 1987 horror classic
The Stepfather. Jerry wants nothing more than to settle down with a nice woman in suburbia, but his murderous rage usually forces him to slaughter every new family he charms his way into. The film is tough to track down in the U.S., but it's definitely worth seeing for O'Quinn's chilling performance.
Harold Perrineau in William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
I wasn't a big fan of Perrineau's character on
Lost, but I'll never forget his flamboyant turn as the doomed Mercutio in Baz Luhrmann's crazy retelling of Shakespeare's classic. The director's violent, fast-paced, teen-friendly take on the material isn't for everyone, but put aside any aversion you might have to Leonardo DiCaprio, and simply revel in the sight of Perrineau singing "Young Hearts Run Free" while dressed in drag. I guarantee it's something you'd never see Michael do.
Jeremy Davies in Rescue Dawn
If you think Daniel Faraday seems a little bit off his rocker, check out Davies' turn in this drama about Vietnam-era POWs. The actor plays a prisoner who's been in captivity for so long that he begins to lose his mind, not to mention his body fat, but he's soon inspired to escape by a new POW played by Christian Bale. The fact that this tale of heroism is inspired by real events only makes it stronger and more compelling.
