In about two months it'll be time for the BuddyTV staff to compile our personal picks for the best television shows of 2008.  There's no doubt in my mind that Lost, which had a phenomenal fourth season, will rank high on my list.  It may even claw its way to the number one slot, though it has some formidable foes to wrestle before it gets there.  It's rare for a season of television to stick with you even months after it wraps up, but Lost's Emmy-nominated fourth year has proven to be unforgettable.

We've been waiting ages for a glimpse at what's coming up in the show's fifth season, which won't kick off until early 2009.  ABC has finally released the first promo for Lost season 5, which you can watch and decipher below.

The only bad thing about the 76-second promo is that it spends a lot of time going over events from the season 4 finale.  It's obvious that ABC doesn't want to give too much away about season 5 just yet, but I would have liked to see a bit more new material.

As expected, the new footage in the promo is all extremely fascinating, and most of it involves the Oceanic 6.  We see Hurley with a pistol, Sayid kicking ass like he's Jason Bourne, Sun locked in a room against her will, Kate packing heat and running off with Aaron, and a shirtless Jack talking to Ben.  There are also a few glimpses of the folks on the island, as well as one quick flash of the Dharma Initative logo.

ABC has yet to announce when or where Lost season 5 will air, though there are rumors that the show will move back to Wednesdays at 10pm.  Hopefully the network will make an official announcement soon, because this new promo is making me long for 2009 to get here.
