Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet Burke
Dr. Juliet Burke is portrayed by Elizabeth Mitchell in the show Lost. Juliet used to work as a fertility scientist at Miami Central University. Her ex-husband, Edmund Burke, was her boss in and out of the office. He often displayed his dominance by bullying Juliet and getting involved with other women. Juliet kept herself preoccupied by conducting unapproved experiments on her sister, Rachel. Initially, she was unable to accept a job offer from Mittelos Bioscience (a psuedo company that served as a front for the Hanso foundation), saying that the only time she’ll be able to resign from her job at the university is if a bus hit Edmund. Juliet, of course, only meant it as a joke, but it ended up coming true as she was telling Edmund about Rachel’s pregnancy.
When Juliet went to the island, she did not develop the same level of admiration as the Others for Ben Linus. When Oceanic 815 crashed, Juliet was in the middle of one of her book club meetings, where the featured book was Carrie. After watching the airplane break into various parts, Juliet and Ben went into the Pearl Station, and proceeded to closely monitor Dr. Jack Shephard. Juliet then continued to probe Ben’s plan to kidnap Jack, and eventually became Jack’s interrogator.
While Juliet was engaged in one of her interrogation sessions with Jack, Ben asked her to operate on Colleen , who had been shot in the chest by crash survivor, Sun. Not having any background in surgery, Juliet was able to remove the bullet, but Colleen ended up dying due to excessive internal bleeding. After Juliet refused to be comforted by Jack, Jack asked her about Ben’s spinal x-rays, which showed the tumor.
Juliet tried to convince Jack to kill Ben while he was undergoing his spinal surgery, but Jack takes Ben as his hostage instead. As a result, Kate and Sawyer were granted their freedom. However, Juliet attempted to turn the tables on Jack by ordering another Other to find and kill Kate and Sawyer. Later, when Ben awoke from his surgery and talked to Juliet, Juliet suddenly changed her mind and told Jack that she would help Kate and Sawyer escape, which she did by shooting Danny Pickett three times in the chest. Juliet was consequently sentenced to death by the Others community, but Jack managed to dissuade Ben from carrying out the sentence. Instead, Juliet was marked with a Rood, an inverted crucifix that signifies a heretic or an outcast. From there, Juliet started working with Jack, and eventually found herself in the company of Kate after Kate, Sayid and John destroyed the submarine.
