Emilie de Ravin as Claire Littleton

Claire Littleton, on the television series Lost, is portrayed by Emilie de Ravin. As a teenager in Australia, Claire was highly interested in the gothic lifestyle, dying her hair jet black and wearing dark make-up. On one fateful day, Claire and her mother were involved in a terrible car accident. Claire’s mother ended up in the hospital, alive but in a vegetative condition, and having been the one behind the wheel, Claire felt responsible for her mother’s plight. Shortly thereafter, a man approached Claire, introducing himself as her father and as the one taking care of the medical bills. He and Claire went out for a cup of coffee, but after the man remarked that it would be best for Claire to let her mother die, Claire immediately left him in the coffee shop, never knowing that his name was Christian Shephard.

Moving on with her life, Claire got a job at a Fish ‘n’ Fry restaurant, and later found out that she was pregnant. Her boyfriend, Thomas, refused to have anything to do with her and the baby, which ultimately convinced Claire to put the baby up for adoption. However, her plans were disrupted after a psychic named Richard Malkin continuously insisted that she be the one to raise the baby. Because Claire tried her best to avoid Richard, he decided to trick her into going to the United States, saying that there was an American couple interested in adopting Claire’s unborn child. He booked her a seat on Oceanic 815, and told her to take that specific flight and no other.

After the plane crashed, the still pregnant Claire found it hard to befriend anyone at first, mainly because the other survivors were making an effort to avoid her. She became convinced that the psychic knew about the crash and that he didn’t warn her so as to force her to take care of her own baby.

Soon though, she was able to form a friendship with Charlie Pace, who took it upon himself to interact with her frequently. Dr. Jack Shephard also spent time with Claire, mainly because he wanted to monitor her pregnancy. She became much closer to Charlie, especially she gave birth to her son, Aaron. Charlie stepped in and readily welcomed the responsibilities of a father. However, their relationship was tested when Claire found out about Charlie’s heroin use. Claire’s trust in Charlie further dwindled after he abducted Aaron, in the hopes of baptizing the baby in the water.
