Dominic Monaghan as Charlie Pace
Charlie Hieronymus Pace is portrayed by Dominic Monaghan on the show Lost. Charlie’s music career began on the streets, with him singing several cover songs and playing his guitar. He and his brother Liam later formed the rock band, DriveSHAFT, for which Charlie played bass and wrote songs. The band gradually rose to fame, but Charlie was not too happy about the success. He made Liam promise that if things went out of hand, the band would have to be dissolved. Unfortunately, Liam failed to live up to his promise and succumbed even further to his drug addiction. After some time, the band found itself in the background again, with their hit single, “You All Everybody,” being used as a mere jingle for a diaper ad. In the hopes of reclaiming glory for DriveSHAFT, Charlie went back to songwriting, but later found out that Liam had sold his piano in order to buy a ticket to Australia.
Having nowhere to go and with no money to support his addiction to heroin (a habit that he acquired from his brother), Charlie decided to woo a rich woman named Lucy, but in the process, ended up having real feelings for her. Lucy’s father gave Charlie a job as a copier salesman, but when Lucy discovered Charlie’s initial motivation for building a relationship with her, Charlie was thrust back into his old life.
Upon finding out that DriveSHAFT may get a chance to open for another band during an eight-week tour, Charlie rushed to Australia to find his brother, who was now married and living a drug-free life. Liam tried to get Charlie to undergo rehabilitation, but instead of granting his brother’s wishes, Charlie stormed off and later found himself in a hotel room with a strange woman, with whom he fought over heroin. Charlie boarded Oceanic 815 on his way back, and was in the plane’s bathroom doing heroin moments before the crash.
As one of the survivors of the crash, Charlie tried his best to make himself useful by participating in numerous survival efforts. He also wanted the others to acknowledge his celebrity status, but not all of them bought into Charlie’s telling words and hints. Having found his heroin stash while looking for the transceiver with Jack and Kate, Charlie was able to sustain his craving for the drug on the island. Claire, the woman who gave birth to her baby, Aaron, on the island and with whom Charlie formed a special bond, later discovered Charlie’s drug use. As a result, Claire distanced herself and Aaron from Charlie.
Charlie also found it easy to bond with Eko because both of them followed the same belief system, but Eko later left Charlie to build the church on his own.
