'Little People, Big World' Star Goes to Trial
Wednesday, January 09, 2008

Matt Roloff of Little People, Big WorldOn Tuesday, January 8, Matt Roloff, star of the TLC reality program Little People, Big World, began to fight charges of driving under the influence.  The charges are the result of his June arrest.

Both the arresting officer and the defense gave opening statements.  As part of the testimony, a sheriff's deputy from Washington county offered details regarding Roloff's failed sobriety test.

The deputy said that he followed Matt Roloff, who appears in Little People, Big World with his wife and four children, as he drove off away from the Rock Creek Café just before midnight on June 19 in a white van.  He said that he stopped the reality star two miles down West Union Road and took him to the Washington County Jail when he failed an eye sobriety test. Roloff was cited on charges of DUII, refusing a breath test and failing to drive within a lane.

Roloff's attorney reasoned that his client was, at the time of the incident, tired from a trip with his family and a film crew for Little People, Big World.  Furthermore, they claimed that Roloff was driving erratically only because he was driving his wife's custom vehicle, which he was not used to operating.

Some of the six men who make up the jury said they know Matt Roloff from Little People, Big World, a reality series which follows his family as they go about their way in their Oregon farm.

This is not the first time that Roloff has faced DUII charges.  In 2003, he agreed to enter an alcohol treatment program after he was charged with DUII.  The charges were dropped, however, when he completed the program.

The trial is expected to last until today, at the very least. Meanwhile, the fourth season of Little People, Big World came to end just last month, and the network has yet to announce a premiere date for the show's next edition.
