Charming little CW rookie
Life Unexpected just wrapped up its charming little season
last night, and already the internet is abuzz with calls for, at the very least, a sophomore run.
The numbers are by no means spectacular, sadly, as its finale drew yet another 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demo and a 1.5 in the CW target 18-34 group. While its ratings are not
Melrose Place horrible, its supposed rival
One Tree Hill has far more robust numbers, says
TV By the Numbers.
A decision from the netlet is expected to come on the CW upfront presentation on May 20.
This doesn't mean
Life Unexpected creator Liz Tigelaar has no plans for a hitherto uncertain season two. Finally surmounting that family roadblock, she tells
Zap2it that the second season will tackle things "more as a family."
"[I]t's time to enjoy them as a family," she says. "The road trip episode was so fun for the actors to play. Senioritis kind of kicked in by the time we shot that, because we only had one episode left, and everyone had so much fun! Whereas in the first season they're all tacking their own individual obstacles and conflicts and inner demons, in the second season ... They're a unit now."
Also on the show's season two agenda are more Tasha and Bug, more Bug and Baze, more Lux in high school and just more Lux, something that might have been overshadowed by the whole Cate-Ryan-Baze triangle in the finale.
"We got a lot of flack the first season about Lux being unlikable," she adds, "but we don't want to worry about likeable vs. unlikable. The best story we can tell is the one that feels true to who this girl would be."
Curiously absent on the said wedding are Lux's love interests Bug and Jones, an occurrence that
Life Unexpected fans might need to get used to soon.
Austin Butler, the guy who plays Jones, is
shooting a pilot for the CW called
Betwixt. It revolves around three teens who discover they're actually changelings.
Says Tigelaar: "If Jones is available to us, Jones will very much be a part of the show. If he's not, I do have an idea for another guy character. I would like to see more people from Lux's school.
