The more they stay the same, and tonight on
Life Unexpected, Baze (Kristoffer Polaha) and Ryan (Kerr Smith) found themselves in a little game while Cate (Shiri Appleby) watched helplessly from the sidelines. Sounds familiar? No, it's not Hands on a Hybrid. The good thing was, while "Bride Unbridled" essentially repeated the narrative of last week's episode, there was a different twist in the end: Baze and Ryan realized they'd want to be friends, Lux (Britt Robertson) decided to move on from Bug and Cate is alone.
Don't forget to catch: 'Unexpected' Renewal for 'LUX'? CW Prez Sounds OffOK maybe not the last one. It did, however, had us asking questions.
1. Why are Cate and Ryan still doing the show? Seriously, how long does their producer think they can continue the show with all its formulas when Cate and Ryan have broken up. How heartless and insensitive. Sure, they have a fan base to appease and a show to run, but surely, those can't take precedence over agonizingly spending their days just because they're forced to be in the same room and engage in pretentious banter.
2. Why didn't Lux ask Abercrombie Boy about his girlfriend, the reason why Bong Girl is even in their vocabulary in the first place? Did Lux forget that Jones had a girlfriend? Or have they broken up?
3. Who puts rings in nachos? Don't answer that, but as a corollary, What is the worst idea after breaking off your engagement? Go to a wedding expo to hear endless retellings of how a blushing lady found her engagement ring in her nachos. But seriously, who puts rings in nachos?
4. What's up with the scary boa in Cate's wedding dress?

5. Why is Baze following the footsteps of mommy dearest? Hasn't anybody on this show learned that lying will get you nowhere? There is a difference, however, something that Lux readily ignored: the intention. Cate wanted to cover up her less-than-admirable ways (sleeping with Baze), while Baze actually wanted his daughter to cheer up and get some sun.
6. Why is Ryan awesome? Why is he spot on when he was describing Cate's motives? Rhetorical question, but isn't he a dear for insisting to be involved in Lux's life despite not being engaged to her good-for-nothing mom?
7. Why is this show repeating itself? After watching "Bride Unbridled" you'd think
Life Unexpected is stuck in a rut. It had decided to devote two consecutive episodes pitting Baze and Ryan against each other in in-your-face contests.
After "Bride Unbridled" the show's central love triangle is currently MIA, as neither guy wants anything to do with Cate. Where does it go from here? Ryan's disgust for Cate has reached a new level and Baze simply cannot be bothered anymore. We wonder how the
Life Unexpected peeps are going to push things next week.
