Not everyone was happy with the CW
schedule for the start of 2010 - some because of
One Tree Hill's six-month hiatus and others because there won't be a new
Gossip Girl episode until March 8. But central to the CW's schedule shakeup agenda is a new drama that looks promising and, dare we say it, not like the crop of shows that are currently airing on the cable network.
Life UneXpected looks like it doesn't have the scandal and glitz of
Gossip Girl and the intense drama of
One Tree Hill, but a refreshing, kind of warm humor and ambiance of something in between, something that you'd expect from ABC Family or the old WB. And why not, with alums from
Dawson's Creek and
Roswell, people have high hopes for
Life UneXpected. Here's the extended preview:
The plot is simple enough. 15-year-old witty, Juno-like girl with lots of wise cracks surfaces out of nowhere to parents who had no idea she existed. Father is Baze (Kristoffer Polaha) who lives above a bar like a frat boy who refuses to grow up, mother is Cate (Shiri Appleby) who is a sort of local celebrity as a star on a morning radio show alongside boyfriend Ryan (Kerr Smith).
Alas, 15-year-old girl - Lux (Britanny Robertson), who is by the way blonde, unlike her onscreen mom - doesn't want anything from her birth parents except signatures so that she can get legally emancipated. The judge, however, decides that Lux is not yet quite ready for a life of her own so she grants joint custody to the couple.
Does it give you that
Gilmore Girls vibe and like it? Or do you still crave for
Gossip Girl's mischievous twists and turns?
Right off the bat, you know that this isn't anything like that - the songs used in the promo should tell you that much. But is the ending too much of a give away? We also see that while Cate is in a relationship, it's not exactly smooth sailing, and Baze, that boy is the textbook guy-who-needs-to-clean-up-his-act.
