Calvin Goldspink Talks About His 'Wild' Experience
Having no previous acting experience did not stop British pop star Calvin Goldspink from auditioning for the CW's Life is Wild, but the risky move paid off, as he ended up getting cast in the role of Oliver Banks.  Now, he not only has his music career to take care of, but a budding acting career as well.

Of course, since this is Goldspink's first acting gig, there are quite a few challenges he must face and overcome.

“I find learning the lines a challenge,” Goldspink, a former member of the pop music group S Club 8, told Starry Constellation Magazine.  “However, the more I do it, the easier I find it.  On the plus side though, our director told me I'd have good outtakes!”

On Life is Wild, Goldspink's character is a young British man who comes from a wealthy family in The Blue Antelope in South Africa.

“He is a bit of a ladies man,” the 18-year-old singer-actor said of Oliver, “and once the new American family arrives he quickly befriends Katie Clarke [Leah Pipes] and they begin to date!!”

Acting in a series means having to work with a varied group of actors on a regular basis, and while this task may seem daunting to a newcomer like Goldspink, he said that he has been able to establish a good relationship with his costars, which in turn accounts for the great chemistry between them onscreen.

“We all get along so well, [the onscreen chemistry is] definitely natural.  I mean we have moved to Africa for a year in real life so the chemistry is easy,” he said.  “We all live in a new complex near our set. I live across from Andrew St. John, who plays Jesse, so we go to the gym after work, play XBOX, and all that good stuff.  It's easy on set to pretend we're mates.”

When asked why viewers should watch Life is Wild, Goldspink said the new show “is like nothing else on TV.”

“If you want to spend an hour of your day being taken to Africa, seeing animals, amazing landscapes, and learning about a different culture, you need to tune in to Life Is Wild,” he said.
