Acting a "Blessing" for 'Life is Wild' Star
Andrew St. John has been in the entertainment industry since 2003, but it wasn't until this year that he landed a steady gig, starring in the new CW family drama, Life is Wild.  Nevertheless, the 25-year-old actor is grateful for his previous acting experiences, which include guest-starring roles in various shows like Vanished, Criminal Minds, What I Like About You and General Hospital.

“It's always a blessing to work in this industry,” St. John told cwsource.tv.  “The call that you got the job has always been a favorite moment.”

On Life is Wild, Andrew St. John plays Jesse Weller, a rebellious teen who moves to South Africa with family when his stepfather takes on a job at a game reserve.  St. John said that his audition process for the role was rather unconventional.

“This wasn't your standard audition because they'd already gone and seen a lot of actors for the role and they couldn't quite find somebody that they liked.  I think they'd already gone through three or four rounds of testing, where they already brought… different groups of guys to the network,” St. John explained.  “I was like a last-minute [casting]… I came in a week before I actually flew off.  I booked it on a Thursday afternoon, and I was on a plane Sunday morning.”

The plane took him and the rest of the Life is Wild cast & crew to South Africa, where they spent a month to shoot the pilot.  For the rest of the season, they've had a little bit more time -- 5 months, to be exact.

“[Africa] is mindblowing.  It was my first time ever out of the country, so just experiencing the whole, you know, going through customs, everything like that and then just the culture shock,” he said.  “I mean, life is completely different out there.  Life is wild, pun intended.”

While Life is Wild is Andrew St. John's first big break, it has required him to let go of some other noteworthy projects.

“I was actually up for another role in this movie called the Least of These that [Bionic Woman actor] Isaiah Washington is starring in right now,” he told cwsource.tv.  “There was another role that I was up for [in a different project], but… I wouldn't have had time to shoot it…”
