The 13th and finale episode of Fox's rookie series Lie to Me will air tonight, and the case will take the group to the nation's capital. On "Sacrifice," the FBI asks the Lightman Group to investigate a terrorist bombing outside Washington, D.C.
The freshman detective drama, meanwhile, reeled in its biggest numbers in week after it registered a 2.7 rating in the all-important 18-49 demo - 8.7 million viewers all in all - and a 17 percent jump in the adult demographic. Its impressive 12.37 million pilot numbers, however, continued to dwindle en route to the 8.7 mil in the last episode.
Lie to Me stars Tim Roth as expert Cal Lightman, who can tell if someone is lying simply by studying their face and observing their body language and microexpressions. His company, the Lightman Group, operates as an independent contractor to assist investigations of local and federal law enforcement.
The procedural also stars Kelli Williams as Gillian Foster, Cal's colleague; Monica Raymund as Ria Torres, Cal's protégé who was recognized as a "natural" while still working as a TSA agent; and Brenda Hines as Eli Loker, an intern at the Lightman Group who can be too honest for her own good.
In an interview, veteran actor Roth said that contrary to his character's special skill, he has no idea if people are lying.
"People assume that you know what you're doing. I read the scripts and I do what's necessary for that, but people do make the assumption that you actually can read them, and that's a bit worrying really," he says. "Except my kids very much think that I know when they haven't done their homework. That's quite useful."
