haylie duffHaylie Duff makes her return to primetime TV as she heads the search for a new Broadway star on MTV's Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods.  The 23-year-old actress, who is best known for being the sister of Hilary Duff and for her supporting role on 7th Heaven, will serve as host to the new talent show that will premiere next month.

"I don't do any of the eliminating or judging.  I'm always auditioning for things so I see them as my peers.  They're wonderful, talented girls and they're already professionals," Duff, who also acts as executive producer, said about her new show.

Duff's quest specifically involves looking for the next blonde to step into the shoes of Elle Woods, the perennially perky girl who loves to be pampered and shop for the latest outfits with matching handbags, of course.  This sorority sister, however, is smarter than she seems.  So when her boyfriend leaves her for someone "more serious," she embarks on a quest to win him back by hitting the books at Harvard Law School.

For those who are not familiar, Elle Woods is the lead character of the 2001 comedy film Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon.  The movie's box office success has spawned a 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, and an upcoming direct-to-DVD feature, Legally Blondes.  Additionally, it has also led to Legally Blonde: The Musical, which premiered on January 23, 2007 in San Francisco and opened in New York City at the Palace Theatre on Broadway on April 29, 2007.

The reality series Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods debuts on June 2 at 10pm on MTV. Ten hopefuls will vie for the opportunity to see her name in lights as the star of the Broadway production, replacing Tony-winning actress Laura Bell Bundy.

The judges for The Search include actor Paul Canaan, writer for Legally Blonde: The Musical Heather Hach, director/choreographer Jerry Mitchell, and casting director Bernard Telsey.
