Benjamin Bratt became a household name when he was cast on
Law & Order as Detective Rey Curtis. He joined the 27th precinct as a homicide detective and approached police work by strictly sticking by the book. Because of his drastic approach, he often clashed with his partner, Lennie Briscoe. He took an early retirement when his wife Deborah’s multiple sclerosis significantly worsened.
After 94 episodes of
Law & Order, Bratt concentrated on making movies. He was cast in
The Next Best Thing as Ben Cooper, starring alongside Madonna and Rupert Everett. Shortly, he landed a role in
Miss Congeniality, playing Eric Matthews, the love interest of Sandra Bullock. This was followed by a series of movie projects such as
Traffic, Piñero, Abandon, The Woodsman, Catwoman, Thumbsucker and
The Great Raid, just to name a few. Most recently, he returned to the television circuit when he played the character Maj. Jim Tisnewski on 16 episodes of the military drama series
E-Ring.
Bratt has three upcoming movie projects lined up for 2007 to 2008. He stars as Dr. Juvenal Urbino in the film
Love in the Time of Cholera, a romantic drama set in South America that focuses on a love triangle during the turn-of-the-century. Budgeted at $50 million, the film stars Liev Schreiber as Lotario Thurgot, John Leguizamo as Lorenzo Daza, Laura Harring as Sara Noriega, Javier Bardem as Florentino Ariza, and Catalina Moreno as Hildebranda Sanchez, and also features three songs provided by singer Shakira. Bratt also stars in
The Argentine, a drama about the Cuban revolution directed by Steven Soderbergh, and in
Guerrilla, a biopic also directed by Steven Soderbergh, which stars Benicio Del Toro as the political figure Ernesto 'Che' Guevara de la Serna.
