This fall,
Law & Order: Criminal Intent will be returning with a new cast member. As a temporary replacement for
Julianne Nicholson, who is on maternity leave, actress Alicia Witt will be gracing the show as police detective Nola Falacci. The move is part of a trend that will hopefully bring in stronger female characters on the upcoming storylines.
While there is no word yet on what will happen to Nicholson’s character, Detective Megan Wheeler, upon the return of the police drama, Alicia Witt’s character is reportedly drafted as a partner for Detective Mike Logan (
Chris North).

“Alicia Witt will add a new dimension to the series as it enters its seventh season,” USA Network's executive vice president Jeff Wachtel said. “We are thrilled that she is joining what is already an exceptional cast and excited about the opportunity to expand our ‘Characters Welcome’ brand.”
Alicia Witts, a 31-year-old native of Worcester, Massachusetts, is known for her role as Zoe on the sitcom
Cybill. Her other acting credits include
Ally McBeal,
The Upside of Anger and
Two Weeks Notice.
Original episodes of
Law & Order: Criminal Intent will be airing this fall on cable’s USA Network with reruns, with no specified date yet, to run on its previous home network NBC. The upcoming season seven premieres on Thursday, October 4 at 10/9c.
Rumors that the
Law & Order would be moving to TNT surfaced the news due to the poor ratings but were dispelled when NBC officially revealed that it would be maintaining two out of its three
Law & Order franchise. It took in
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and the original
Law & Order, while moving the
Law & Order: Criminal Intent to the USA Network.
