After three years together, actor and lead star of
Las Vegas Josh Duhamel and pop singer Fergie are engaged. Fergie, properly known as Stacy Ferguson, was a former member of the Black Eyed Peas, but has found incredible fame recently as a solo artist. Josh Duhamel has gained most of his notoriety as the lead and female favorite Danny McCoy on
Las Vegas. Duhamel got his start in the soap opera world on
All My Children, even earning some Daytime Emmy nominees. Fergie has steadily risen into the realm of pop icon over the past couple of years thanks to hit songs “My Humps” and “London Bridge,” not to mention her scantily clad public and on stage appearances.
The couple had previously blown off the possibility of getting married, but the holidays do funny things to people. To me, Fergie is the classic two-face, depending on the day and the lighting she can either look great or pretty bad. She seems like a nice enough lady, and I wish the couple well. Duhamel has always seemed destined for stardom, though it hasn't really come just yet.
If we take a gander into the way-back machine, Fergie's rise to stardom was an interesting road. Fergie was not an original member of the Black Eyed Peas, though the group didn't rise to fame until she came on board. “Where is the Love” was the song that shot that group onto MTV and made them famous. However, it must be noted that the Black Eyed Peas put out a couple of really good hip hop albums before Fergie came on board, the kind of albums that hip hop purists really enjoy, similar to A Tribe Called Quest or The Roots. Their inclusion of Fergie on the album Elephunk signaled a selling out of sorts by the group, though I'm sure they're glad they did it, because it brought them fame and fortune. Unfortunately, the music wasn't near as good. For my money, “My Humps” is one of the worst hit songs of the past decade.
