Camille Guaty, one of the new faces on NBC's
Las Vegas, knew so little about her character in the beginning that she actually thought she would be playing someone of the third sex.
“In the beginning, I thought they were going to make my character gay,” Guaty told
Starry Constellation Magazine. “I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I'm a lesbian, let's find out.' We only know the character development as the scripts come in… You never know, I really thought they might have gone that route, but they didn't go that route.”
Since Guaty's character, Montecito concierge Piper Nielsen, is straight, viewers can expect to see her with a male love interest sometime in the middle of the season.
“I'll just say this, it came after a night of drinking and we woke up and we're in complete shock that we were in bed together,” she said.
Having previously worked in such dramas as
The Nine and
Prison Break, Camille Guaty said it has taken her some time to adjust to the more spontaneous and less serious world of
Las Vegas, a series that combines drama and comedy. However, she said that the bigger challenge she had to overcome was learning how to portray the character in a way that would satisfy her and the writers' vision.
“I just think it was in the beginning with formulating the character and I had an idea of what I wanted for Piper and the writers obviously had their own agenda,” she said. “It's always a collaborative effort when you're just starting to find the ground of what you see and what they see coming together… when you do know what you want [they] listen to you, which is nice, but if you're just coming in with not much to bring to the table then they're just going to blow you off.”
For those who are wondering if Guaty will reprise her role as Maricruz, Sucre's beloved, on FOX's
Prison Break, the 29-year-old actress said that viewers can expect to see her towards the end of the show's current season.
“Maricruz and Sucre kind of said a temporary goodbye… daddy needs to go and get the money, and then we'll be okay,” Guaty explained. “He's got a job to do, he's gotta go and get that money.”
