It's certainly no secret that there aren't a lot of warm feelings between
Kat Von D and
Ami James. In fact, the difficulties between the two, which culminated in Kat leaving the show
Miami Ink and its eponymous shop, were a central plot point of the final episodes of the second season of
Miami Ink.
Kat has since moved on to open her own shop and start her own show,
LA Ink. Since Kat's presence in his shop appeared to be a discordant element for Ami, it would seem that her absence would be nothing but good news. But, some sources close to the show say, he's apparently just as bothered by her current success as he was by her time in his own shop.
The New York Post reports that a source said Ami is “going crazy” about the fact that Kat now has her show,
LA Ink, leading into his own. He is also said to be “fuming” about a New York billboard that used to feature his picture but now advertised Kat's show with a huge poster of his former employee.
The source claims that Ami is acting out due to his displeasure with the situation. The source says, "He's now berating his staff, the cameramen, everyone in his path…He is so jealous of Kat and her success it's making him insane. He's moody, you can't predict how bad he'll act on any given day.” The source goes on to make the harsh assessment that “Kat's better-liked, better-looking, and nobody cares about Ami anymore."
A TLC staffer confirms that the spin-off show
LA Ink was in the works prior to Kat's departure from
Miami Ink, but is a bit more measured and diplomatic when discussing the falling out between the two tattoo artists, saying, "In any working environment, people don't get along," the insider said. "It didn't work out between the two of them, but both are extremely talented. They agreed they couldn't work together anymore."
