'Kyle XY' Season 2.5 Has More Action for Jessi, Lighter Fare for Kyle
Thursday, January 17, 2008

Jaimie Alexander and Matt DallasABC Family's Kyle XY returned with second half of its second season on Monday, and viewers finally learned the fate of Jessi XX (Jaimie Alexander), who was last seen hurling herself into a cliff.  Apparently, she is still alive and kicking, which is more than can be said for Kyle (Matt Dallas), who, although still very much alive like Jessi, is seeing less action as the season continues.

“They took it all away and gave it to Jessi,” Dallas said in the January 21 issue of TV Guide.  “Trust me, I've been very sad about it.  Give me my action and my fighting sequences and all my cool stunts back!”

The reason why the 25-year-old actor won't have as many high action moments as before is that the writers want to further shine the spotlight on Kyle's relationships.

“They went really sci-fi in the first half of the [second] season, and now they're focusing on Kyle's relationships, which the writers describe as ‘Kyle finding the extraordinary in the ordinary,” Dallas explained.  “It's a little lighter, not so much the situations of a superhero.  I hope that next season they start playing more with the big picture – what Kyle's destiny is.”

For now, Matt Dallas said that the “darkest, most sci-fi part of the show” is that of Jessi's storyline.

“She's a tortured teenage girl who doesn't know where she fits in and unlike Kyle, she wants to show off her powers to the world,” supervising producer Julie Plec said of Kyle's female counterpart.  Kyle, on the other hand is more determined to find ways on how he can “take his extraordinary physical and mental abilities and use them in a very human way to help people.  The central question for Kyle is, ‘Now I know who I am, who can I become?'”

All that being said, Kyle, along with Jessi, will still have to face Latnok (Hungarian for “The Prophet”), the group of scientists who created them.

“[Latnok] still has big plans for Jessi and Kyle,” Matt Dallas said.  “We're the prototype for a new way of human life.”
