BuddyTV is looking at the 17 new shows the major networks will premiere this Fall to see which ones are worth getting excited about and which ones we have low expectations for.
Show Description: NBC has brought
Knight Rider back for the umpteenth time. You know the deal - KITT is a special, talking car with a technologically advanced interface (it can hack into any computer system), an impressive weapons system, and the voice of an aging method actor (Val Kilmer). This
Knight Rider, despite being action-packed, is being sold as family entertainment by NBC.
When: Wednesdays at 8pm on NBC
Cast: Bruce Davison, Deanna Russo, Justin Bruening, Sydney Tamilia Porter, Val Kilmer (voice)
Anticipation: Almost non-existent. Yes, NBC's
Knight Rider TV movie did fairly well in the ratings, but the network forgot to ask if anyone cared to see more. The reboot was ravaged by critics and generally derided by audiences, so why torment us with further adventures of Hasselhoff's spawn and his talking car? Knight Rider is just another example of NBC's desire to remake past hits. Are a few original ideas too much to ask for?
Similar Shows: Well, there's the first version of
Knight Rider (con Hoff), then there was the second version of
Knight Rider, then the third, and then the more recent TV movie which ended up being the backdoor pilot for this newest
Rider iteration. Series featuring cars have been a TV staple through the years, from
The Dukes of Hazzard and
Starsky and Hutch to
Scooby Doo.
