Last week, an outroar broke out when
Kitchen Nightmares master chef
Gordon Ramsay appeared in Channel 4’s
The F Word, where he regularly hosts and prepares three-course meals for guests. In one recent episode, he was featured eating puffins on the show. A particular scene showed Ramsay’s companion breaking the necks of four puffins and skinning them, and later taking out the hearts which will serve as a special Icelandic delicacy. Shortly thereafter, complaints started filing in saying that “eating the puffins was cruel, consuming their fresh hearts was offensive and that puffins were a species under threat,” the Press Association reports.
Nonetheless, the network replied, saying that “the birds were killed in a manner as to inflict minimal suffering and emphasized the show aired a warning shortly before the graphic scene was shown,” UPI reports.
Meanwhile, the second season of
Kitchen Nightmares is well underway, with Ramsay recently visiting Guiseppis Trattoria in last week’s episode. Ramsay headed back to Macomb Township in Michigan to check on Kathy and Brian, the owners of the restaurant who want their inexperienced son, Sam to inherit the place.
"It’s a nightmare because of the hell that goes on in the kitchen, Kathy admitted. “At my age, I can’t start over again! It’s not just as simple as a menu change. It’s a bit more complex."
In fact, Ramsay himself immediately pointed out what was wrong with the dynamics between the three family members.
“I want to see some passion,” he said. “No one’s striving to be better.”
Joe also criticized his son, saying “Sam is like a new puppy that you have to constantly pay attention to.”
Sam retorted by saying that “I have not served him anything without him saying it’s not done right.”
Ramsay finally steps in and tells the father and son to do a cook-off, while telling Kathy to write a letter to both Joe and Sam, but keep it momentarily hidden. Eventually, Ramsay works out not only the kitchen problems but the also the communication issues between father and son.
“I’m so happy to know that me and my father can work side by side,” Sam admitted.
Joe, on the other hand, was thankful, saying, “Chef Ramsay brought back the love that we had.”
