Nora Ephron's work is fairly astounding, even for a Hollywood success story. Her film career (which followed two brief stints in television writing) began in the early 1980s and only snowballed from there. After her breakout hit, When Harry Met Sally (1989), Ephron continued to write successful and beloved films: Sleepless in Seattle, My Blue Heaven, Michael, You've Got Mail, Julie & Julia and more. Nora Ephron also directed 8 feature films, including Sleepless in Seattle and Julie & Julia.

The filmmaker died after a mostly secret battle with cancer. Keep reading to see the shocked and heartbroken response to this death from the television world.
