Biblical-themed NBC series Kings finally bids goodbye to its few and loyal subjects tonight as it ends its painfully short reign. On the second of the two-part finale, Jack (Sebastian Stan) and William (Dylan Baker) make plans for Jack to take his father's place as king. To everyone's surprise, however, Silas (Ian McShane) is alive and David (Christopher Egan) escapes Shiloh to warn Silas about the chaos to come. A good closure? Doesn't look like it, but you be the judge.

On the last episode of Kings, Silas proceeded with his plan to hand over Port Prosperity to long-time enemy Gath. This after imprisoning Jack and David for treason.

Kings, a modern re-imagining of the biblical story of King David, was received quite well critically, but it was pulled from its original Sunday slot after only four episodes to Saturday. After one week, however, it was again pulled out, with its eight remaining episodes pushed to summer. Its ratings dropped from the just above 6 million in the pilot to 1.57 mil in the last episode.

Creator Michael Green previously blamed NBC's shying away from marketing Kings' biblical roots and theme of faith for its early demise. "When the time came for the marketing, there was a very deliberate, outspoken, loud desire articulated by them that, 'We are not going to say King David.' They were scared to say King David. They just felt that that would be detrimental to the show. I thought it was the clearest way to express what the show was about, and I thought it might actually generate interest. But there was a fear of either backlash or marginalizing or pigeonholing."

A three-disc DVD set is scheduled for a September 29 release. Catch the series finale tonight 8pm on NBC.
