On this week's
Kid Nation,
Zach won the election to lead his group. But who is this young man back home and away from the cameras? CBS has provided some additional background on the kids of
Kid Nation, so let's get to know Zach.
Appropriately, some of the questions center on leadership, and – considering that he just won an election – one might wonder if at least one of the answers was given before the taping.
In response to the question, “Should kids be allowed to vote?” Zach gave the measured response, “No, some kids may be very smart but most kids vote for the wrong reason.”
He's also thoughtful with regard to the variation of skills and knowledge within different age groups among kids. When asked, “Is it possible for a 9-year-old to make a better leader than a 14-year-old?”, he answered, “It depends on leadership skills.”
He also says he doesn't have any kid role models, because his biggest role model is his dad. That said, he still thinks adults should listen more to kids because they “may be small but some of [them] have great ideas.”
Like
Morgan from
Kid Nation, who we recently profiled, he also thinks John F. Kennedy was a world leader that he admired. Theordore Roosevelt was one of the best presidents in his opinion, but Zach is not too fond of the current administration out of disapproval for its stance on Iraq.
He is bothered enough by the war to name it, along with racism, as the thing he would most like to change if he had the power to do so. However, he is also aware of global warming, and thinks that will be one of the biggest problems facing the world when he is an adult.
When asked, “If you could put into place one law that pertains to kids in our country, what would it be?”, he responded, “Kids able to work if they so choose.” Hmm…interesting…maybe all the controversy around Kid Nation and child labor got to him.
But enough serious stuff! Some lighter Zach facts: his favorite movie star is Will Ferrell and he loves Black Panther and Silver Surfer comics. He loves steamed milk with vanilla flavor and vanilla chip ice cream. His favorite TV shows are Courage the Cowardly Dog and Dexter, and, one assumes, once this season is over, he'll be adding
Kid Nation to that list as well.
