Kid Nation: A Parent's Perspective, Episode 9
Thursday, November 15, 2007

There are only 12 days left for the citizens of Bonanza City on Kid Nation and you know what?  I hate to say it but it can't come soon enough.  Ever babysit a kid and after a few hours, just stare at the clock waiting for their parents to come home?  Ever hang around kids too long at a birthday party when birthday brat syndrome kicks in?  I'm really at the point where I've had enough of many of the kids.  They've overstayed their welcome, had too much camera time, whined, cried, and screamed just a LITTLE bit too much for my patience.   Want to know why somebody is looking to leave every week?  Because every day of their lives in Bonanza City, people are screaming their heads off and going insane.  As we get ready to wind down and send the kids back to their own parents, let's take a look at last night's episode and hand out some gold stars of our own (and some less than stellar moments, too).

Kids Who Have Moved Up In My Book

I have to admit - I have been hard on Taylor and Greg most of the time.  I'll pay them a compliment every now and again but for the most part, I have found them obnoxious.  Yet, every now and then, Greg becomes the coolest kid ever.  When he was separated from Blaine, he acted like a five year old who didn't get the toy he wanted.  When Randi wanted to go home, though, he supported her, even carrying her to make her feel better.  Taylor also tried to help Randi and shed a few tears on her behalf when she ended up leaving.  They have hearts and they're good kids deep down.  I also love Blaine a hundred times more since he moved to the yellow district.  I'm so glad that he won the gold star this week!

Kids Whose Parents Need To Pick Them Up ... NOW

Alright, I've been mostly quiet about my dislike for one citizen for weeks now but I can't take it anymore.  The sooner I don't have to listen to Olivia, the better.  She's rude, particularly to Anjay, but her overall personality is just grating.  I'm not saying Anjay doesn't deserve it.  Every time I see that kid, he's trying to lecture people or is crying or yelling, "Shut up!"  Finally, I was really surprised at Laurel's behavior this week.  She was selfish and difficult and didn't seem to have the town's best interest at heart during the district shake up.  I have liked her the whole time but I think Bonanza City has gone to her head.

Kids Who Should Be On The Town Council

I think Laurel's reign over the green district needs to come to an end.  I was pleasantly surprised to see Michael's hand go up to oppose her and I'm hoping he wins.  I do like Zach leading the yellow district and if Blaine wore any other color, I'd want him on the council.  However, I'm going to stick with Zach.  Anjay clearly has lost his grip over the blue team but I'm not sure Greg should be his successor.  I'm all about DK taking over for Guylan.  I never got why he won in the first place.

Next week, we'll find out who wins a spot on the town council.  After throwing down some foul language at Guylan this week, Sophia returns next week by calling her fellow citizens "Nazis".  Classy.  I need some earplugs for future episodes.  Can everyone please stop screaming?  And can someone tell me what any of these kids have learned?
