It's Country Week, y'all! Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars week 6 is also pretty much the only normal week (more or less) we're going to have in a long stretch of episodes. Considering that this week's eliminations will take two weeks of scores into account, that's saying a lot.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
It's going to be rather complicated to make predictions this week, actually. What with the multiple scores -- pairs could have as many as four separate scores by Tuesday night's Results Show -- who knows what could happen?
We do at least know how the various couples did last week. Here's a quick reminder if you -- like me -- need it.1
. Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel -- 58.5 points (29 + 29.5)2. (tie)
Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd -- 56.5 points (29.5 + 27)2. (tie)
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani -- 56.5 points (27 + 29.5)2. (tie)
Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough -- 56.5 points (27 + 29.5)2. (tie)
Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina Smirnoff -- 56.5 (27 + 29.5)6
. Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke -- 56 points (29 + 27)7
. Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy -- 52.5 points (25.5 + 27)8
. Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy -- 51.5 points (24.5 + 27)
Want the same thing, only with pictures? Our performance rankings may be what you need!
Will everything change tonight with the arrival of anachronistic country music? Let's find out!
Carrie Ann Inaba falling off her chair while cheering for Gilles will never stop being funny. I just need to get that out there to begin with.
In case you didn't get the whole "country" thing, the show is starting out with a pro performance to the music of Little Big Town.
Apparently, Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy will perform later.
And is it just me, or does the band sound a little hyper playing the theme music? It may just be me. That's OK. I can handle being alone.
In addition to the normal dances (with that crazy country theme), the All-Stars will also be doing solos. And a group dance. Good grief. How are they going to fit it all in?Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd
Dancing the cha-cha
: Cowboy cha-cha. Of course.
Is Gilles wearing a rubber suit for this dance? Why not? I'll take anything at this point. I'm not really feeling cha-cha with this music, but the dance looks good. And Gilles really proves his worth in that solo -- basically he looks as much like a pro as anyone I've seen on this show.Judges' Comments
: "You come out and you give it 100 percent!" "It's full-on, it's flat-out."Bruno
: "I don't know what country that was, but I would love to pay a visit." "It was sexy, it was kinky..."Carrie Ann
: "I thought it was so creative and so classy..." "You need to watch your hands."Scores
: 9+9+9.5 = 27.5Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van AmstelDancing the rumba
: Sabrina is starting with a solo? Ballsy, that.
She and Louis have surprising and great chemistry for a dance like this. And Louis is wisely letting Sabrina be the showy dancer in the performance. It always annoys me when they go the other way. As for emotions, I saw more ecstasy than heartbreak. But ecstasy is more fun anyway.Judges' Comments
: "The music was so soft and quiet... your dance... it was full-on and strong."Bruno
: "It really was a sumptuous sequence of intriguing shades." "Always, it had an emotional thread running through it."Carrie Ann
: Lots of hugging. "This is what I'm talking about. This is the true beauty of dance."Scores
: 10+10+10 = 30
And we have the first perfect score of the season!!!
Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift are both performing during the results show tomorrow night. Also, if anyone is wondering where the "country" theme came from, ABC has the CMAs this year.
Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy
Dancing the tango
My Comments: Why is Melissa wearing sunglasses and a scarf inside?
She got a buggy for the dance? Cool. And we start with another solo. Lots of spinning in this one. Kind of like the dance itself. And it may be my crappy feed, but Kelly looks like she's floating throughout a lot of this. A bit too jazzy to feel right for a tango -- but that's the music, I think. When you just look at the dance, it's good.
Len: "My overriding feeling was it was a little bit hectic."
Bruno: "Engulfed by the flames of passion!" "You did it, my darling!"
Carrie Ann: "Nice comeback." "You are still the most exciting competitor for me."
Scores: 9+9+9 = 27
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani
Dancing the Viennese waltz
My Comments: Melissa starts off with a surprisingly long solo that looks pretty much like the dance every little girl dreams about dancing all the time. Only this is how it is supposed to look.
And it keeps going pretty.
And my feed totally stopped working for a couple of minutes there and I totally missed the judges' comments. Sorry.
Scores: 9.5+10+10 = 29.5
Fusion dances next week? Chosen by the other dancers. Whatever...
Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough
Dancing the cha-cha
My Comments: And we get both a cow and a tractor in this one? However I feel about the music, at least the props this week are awesome.
This cha-cha doesn't have quite the performance value and flair as some others we've seen from Shawn and Derek. Is this because of Shawn's injury? Or is it just that type of dance? Hard to say. Definitely not Shawn's best, even though it is still good.
: "I thought the choreography was fantastic, I thought the movement was terrific." "Too many gimmicks..."Bruno
: "Forget about the tractor -- you are the sexy one!" "It was so beautifully done and so synchronized."Carrie Ann
: "It was truly a blend of country and cha-cha." "I think the solo was a little bit stiff."Scores
: 9.5+8.5+10 = 28
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Dancing the rumba
: Wow. Kirstie is looking good right about now. Impressive. And this is the kind of dance that suits her well -- dramatic and not crazy-fast. I don't think Kirstie is doing steps that are as hard as what we see from some of the others, but she is performing the heck out of what she does have.Judges' Comments
: "I thought you coped well with a difficult dance." "I'd have liked a little bit more hip action." "I liked it. But not that much."Bruno
: "I think that was really the expression of gorgeousness of a real woman." "You could really tell a story with your little finger."Carrie Ann
: "Tonight, honey, you are the queen of sexy!" "You got lost in it." (in a good way)Scores
: 9.5+8.5+9.5 = 27.5 Apolo Anton Ohno and Karina SmirnoffDancing the Viennese waltz
: Apolo gets to begin with a lot of drama. And part of his solo involves holding a motionless Karina. Interesting.
This is an extremely emotional dance -- kind of a change from what these dancers have been doing lately. Honestly, this might be their best performance yet. Very, very good.Judges' Comments
: "Apolo! Son of Zeus! The Roman god of light and music. And that's what it was!"Bruno
: "No questions, you are a leading man." "Your involvement with Karina is the best I've ever seen."Carrie Ann
: "That was poetry in motion. And it's so nice to see you guys connected that way."Scores
: 10+10+10 = 30 Emmitt Smith and Cheryl BurkeDancing the foxtrot
: "I've never done a solo by myself!" Yep.
Awww... They're grinning in a swing. There is something extremely sweet about this dance. I don't think it's perfect, but the sweetness throughout is just lovely. The big issue is a normal one for this couple -- Cheryl is the more obvious dancer. And Emmitt's solo is... kind of weird. Funny but weird.Judges' Comments
: "It was such entertainment and great to watch."Bruno
: "It's just brilliant... At times you missed a couple of passes."Carrie Ann
: "When you came down the stairs, it just threw you off timing." "You did redeem yourself in the solo."Scores
: 8.5+8.5+9.5 = 26.5
So this is where they all have the same dance and some get extra points. We'll see how this goes.
This is a country-music freestyle performed to the music of Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy
Tee-hee... Louis to Kelly and Val during the group rehearsal: "Get a room."
Gilles Marini should get extra points just for showing up in that insane cowboy costume.
Yeah, they didn't all get this one worked out perfectly. Synchronization is not happening very much. Cute dance, but kind of a mess.
"Lazzooo" I love how Bruno can't really speak English.
Only one couple gets 2 extra points for being the most entertaining. And that couple is... Kirstie and Maks! Sometimes it's good to be funny.
And that's it for country night on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars! Which dancers were your favorite? Did you think the country theme worked? Leave your comments below!
