We start of this week's episode of
K-Ville with a scene in the past of Cobb (
Cole Hauser) literally finding dirty money and washing it. Back in the present, he sits in his car watching this female outside of a FEMA trailer. In another flashback, Cobb and his cell mate, Sonny are in their cell talking about Sonny's girlfriend AJ and we, again, see Sonny carving her initials into the wall of the cell.
Back in the present, Cobb goes to the trailer and gives AJ an envelope containing $21, 250 and tells her that it's from Sonny. He tells her that he was a correctional officer before becoming a cop and that he got to know Sonny before he died. Cobb makes up this story about how Sonny won this money gambling and that it was with his personal property recently discovered in the flooded jail.
Later he and Marlon (
Anthony Anderson) are called to the scene of a murder. The female victim is laid out in a club in what looks to be a voodoo ceremony. Marlon knows a bit about voodoo and disputes the voodoo theory and says that it is staged. One of the voodoo symbols present is for protection, not harm. Turns out the victim owned the club.
At the station, there are a few old cops that deserted during the storm. They have been given reinstatement hearings to possibly get their old jobs back and many of the squad members are not pleased. The captain tells Marlon that K-Ville has lost about 25% of their police officers since Katrina, but that the murder rate has gone up 69%. Charlie has recovered from his car accident an asks Marlon to speak on his behalf at his hearing. After he goes off on Charlie again, Cobb lights into Marlon about his refusal to forgive. Marlon reiterates that you never abandon your partner.
The partners search the murder victim's apartment and find no personal items. Under the bed they find a small caliber revolver and Marlon finds a bunch of letters. They come to the conclusion that the victim was running from someone. They get a hit on one of the voodoo items that lead them to one of the deejays, Sam, at the club.
They go to the Sam's home, get into a chase and discover that Sam is a female. Upon interrogating her at the station, Sam tells them that she had a relationship with the victim, Mary, but that she was afraid. Mary knew she was into voodoo and asked her about protection spells.
It turns out that Mary, is not really Mary. They'd been having problems tracing her financial records because the real Mary McDonald had died a few years ago in Baton Rouge. Jane Doe had been a battered woman and ran to New Orleans to hide. X-rays showed a bunch of old broken bones. She met the real Mary at a battered women's shelter. When Cobb and Marlon attend Jane's funeral, they find an old friend of hers who fills in a few blanks for them, but not her real identity.
While back at the station looking through old missing person's files, Sonny's girlfriend, AJ is brought in. She'd been arrested for passing marked bills from an old bank robbery. When Embry allows Cobb to talk to her before the feds get there, Marlon realizes who she is and that Cobb is the one that gave her the money.
Ginger (
Tawny Cypress) finds Jane Doe's true identity, Allison, and has the police in her old town trying to track down her ex-husband. They then receive a call that the ex is on vacation in New Orleans. As they drive to the hotel to track the ex down, Marlon goes off on Cobb. He reminds him about his promise to see him go down if he returns to his criminal ways and tells him that when this case is over that he, Cobb, had better turn himself in or Marlon would do it for him.
Marlon and Cobb apprehend Allison's ex and take him in for questioning. He's remarried with two children and claims that his ex-wife Allison was killed in a car accident. He quickly lawyers up before telling them anything else. Since they can't talk to him, they decide to talk to his new wife. The new wife admits that he beats her, but claims that he was with her all night the night that Allison was killed. When the police tell her that he beat Allison, that she ran away and that he's been looking for her the entire time he was married, she recants her story and tells them that when their daughter woke her up, he was gone.
Now that the case is closed, Cobb goes to Embry and begins to confess that AJ was protecting him. Marlon interrupts and then he confesses. Marlon says that he found the money while cleaning flooded houses and decided to give the money to someone that really needed it. Embry assumes that Marlon was having an affair with AJ and that's why he gave her the money and Marlon does not dispute it.
When Cobb later asks Marlon why he did it, Marlon reminds him that you never abandon your partner.
Marlon remembers this as he reads Charlie's application for reinstatement. He then goes to a neighborhood bar, sits down next to Charlie, buys himself a beer and one for his 'friend'. They play pool and make steps towards relationship mending.
Next time on
K-Ville, Cobb and Marlon are tasked with keeping a hometown football player safe before the national championship game.
