Last season FX's western US Marshal drama
Justified went out with a bang, or at least a glass of apple pie with some very unhealthy additives.
Thankfully, the phenomenal Margo Martindale received some Emmy recognition for her work as tough mama bear Mags. Less fortunately, Mags' departure left a baddie power vacuum in Harlan. So what's next for quick-drawing US Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant)? Read on to find out!
Beware,
Justified spoilers ahead! This is your last chance to turn back!
More Criminals for Harlan County
With the Bennett clan out of the way, someone needs to step into the giant frightening shoes left by Mags Bennett. Enter
Desperate Housewives' Neal McDonough and
24's Mykelti Williamson as the new villains in question.
Test Your 'Justified' Trivia Knowledge!Who will the stars, who last partnered with Executive Producer Graham Yost on
Boomtown, be playing? McDonough will play Quarles, a mobster who travels to the back roads of Harlan by way of Detroit with crimelord aspirations. Knowing Harlan County, his sharp suits might be getting a bit dusty ... and bullet-ridden.
Williamson, meanwhile, will play a man named Limehouse who tries to protect his small town however he can. And sometimes that means outside of the law. Seems Limehouse will be a villain closer to the Mags/Boyd mold than newcomer Quarles.
If there's one thing
Justified excels at, it's presenting three-dimensional, relatable criminals. It will be exciting to see what mischief the newbies get up to. And of course, there's always Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) waiting in the wings when things get too settled.
Ava's Got a Gun
Speaking of Boyd, last we left our favorite wild-haired criminal he was furious at everyone for allowing Ava (Joelle Carter) to get shot. Did Ava make it? Are she and Boyd still going strong?
Seems the answer is yes on both counts! Ava actress Joelle Carter doled out some fun tidbits about Ava's gun-slinging future and the upcoming season.
"I get to join Boyd in his shenanigans. And I think we get a little Bonnie and Clyde action. The fans seem to really like Ava with a shotgun," Carter said.
Sounds fantastic! We all know nothing says
Justified like Ava on the front porch with a shotgun, but it'll be great to see her becoming more involved in the action. And might that mean coming up on the wrong side of the law against former lover Raylan?
Old Foes and New Friends
Criminals aren't the only new faces popping up in Kentucky. One of season 3's new guest stars will be an old friend from Raylan's Miami days. And she's not hard on the eyes either!
Take Our 'Justified' Personality Quiz Carla Gugino will be stopping by to play a "tough, smart and funny" assistant director of the US Marshal Service. Now based in Washington, D.C., Gugino's character will be traveling to Kentucky to keep witnesses safe after the murder of another Marshal tasked with their protection. There she'll bump into Raylan again and we'll hopefully find out more about their shared history in Miami. Should Wionna (Natalie Zea) be jealous?
Gugino, of course, is no stranger to playing a US Marshal based on a Leonard Elmore story. That's exactly what she did on television in 2003 when she played the lead character in the short-lived
Karen Sisco. So clearly she's got the chops to pull off the part.
Not all the
Justified spoilers focus on introducing new guest stars. It seems we'll be seeing at least two familiar faces pop back up next season. Dickie Bennett (played by the great
Lost actor Jeremy Davies) will show up next season behind bars. And he won't be the only one in the poky. He'll be joined there pretty quickly by another familiar face. But whose?
What do you think of these
Justified spoilers? Excited for the new season? Wondering about Raylan's history with Carla Gugino's new Marshal? I'm just excited to see Ava and Boyd shooting things. Which familiar face do you think joins Dickie in jail? Sound off in the comments!
