Sounds like I might like this show.
With the power team of producers Kevin Falls and Alex Graves, whose past successes include
The West Wing, comes a new entry into the subtle sci-fi serial market with
Journeyman. Starring
Rome heavy
Kevin McKidd (
Trainspotting) in the lead,
Journeyman is the story of Dan Vasser, a successful San Francisco journalist who seems to have the perfect life, a beautiful wife (
Gretchen Egolf) and adoring son, when suddenly his begins to travel back in time against his will.
Vasser's journey always dumps him back in the present where he can see the impact of things he may have done on his journey. At first, this is just an inexplicable oddity, then he discovers that he is being thrown into eras where he may be able to prevent the death of his fiancée Livia played by
Moon Bloodgood (
Day Break).
Livia died in a mysterious plane crash that ultimately steered Vasser on the course to his present life. Armed with the knowledge of the future, Vasser now has the chance to prevent the plane crash from ever happening, but at what price? Will Vasser sacrifice the life he has made with his wife, and the very existence of his son to be reunited with his first love?
The pilot is written by Falls and directed by Graves who worked together through much of
The West Wings rule. Neither has an extensive science fiction pedigree, but the sheer storytelling power shared between the two makes them a lethal combination.
Journeyman is wisely set to debut behind the premiere of its like-minded lead in
Heroes. NBC is betting on a friendly audience hanging in with
Journeyman, and is making plans to prime the audience with a free on demand release of the pilot which will make its way onto Satellite and Cable DVRs sometime around September 10.
