Klaus fans rejoice!

Joseph Morgan (Klaus) is set to star in a The Vampire Diaries spinoff pilot currently titled The Originals according to EW. The potential new show will be launched as a back-door pilot set to air as the The Vampire Diaries episode on April 25.

In the pilot episode, Klaus will return to New Orleans, the supernatural community which he created centuries before, where he will be reunited with his protege, Marcel. Phoebe Tonkin will appear in the episode and is expected to transition to the series as Hayley, a werewolf, who was introduced on this season of TVD.

While Klaus will be missed in Mystic Falls, his departure from town could easily be explained now that his hybrids are dead and Elena's blood no longer will help him create more. It's intriguing to know that Hayley will be accompanying him.

There is no word on whether any of the other Originals will be joining Klaus in New Orleans, but given the working title, it seems likely. Both Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) will be showing up on next week's The Vampire Diaries winter premiere, "After School Special."

Executive Producer Julie Plec is writing the backdoor pilot episode and if the show is picked up to series would be the showrunner on The Originals.

So, The Vampire Diaries fans, are you happy about this news? Are you excited about the possibility of a Klaus-fronted series? Or, would you miss him too much in Mystic Falls?

What about you, Klaroline fans? Are you disappointed that this would essentially end the possibility of a Klaus-Caroline romance?

The Vampire Diaries returns on Thursday, January 17 at 8 pm ET on the CW.
