It seemed as though Jon and Kate Gosselin held their tongues last Saturday, when their all-day divorce hearing went surprisingly peacefully. The Pennsylvania proceedings marked the end of the Jon and Kate Plus 8 stars' marriage, with Kate receiving full custody of the children.
A source told People.com that the two settled their differences, and that both are relieved at how things were done. "This was the proceeding that essentially ended their marriage," said the insider. "Kate is just relieved that a very painful chapter of her life is nearly over, and she is looking forward to building a better, brighter future for herself and her kids."
While neither Jon nor Kate requested spousal support, there was a bit of conflict regarding the distribution of their property. Even so, they managed to close the deal and finalized everything.
It didn't surprise Kate Gosselin that Jon fully agreed to handing the kids over to her. However, it was a shock that the Gosselin dad brought her a "peace offering," as Jon's lawyer called it. Reports confirm that he gave his estranged wife a bouquet of roses during the affair.
"In what should have been their most serious moment as a couple," the source went on, "Jon again resorted to a publicity stunt."
The mother of eight probably saw it as such, and she went on her way without the roses in hand.
Meanwhile Jon's party insists that having the two face off was for the best. "It was a positive move in the right direction for us to bring them together to the mediation table," Mark Heller said. "Obviously before two warring parties can smoke the peace pipe, they have to sit down at a table and address the issues that brought them to the skirmish."
Summing up the event, the father of eight's lawyer said: "There were a couple of very emotional moments but in the end it all came together and concluded on a happy note."
