Getting divorced in public was probably one of the best things that could happen to Kate Gosselin's career. The Jon and Kate Plus 8 matriarch really knows what she's doing with all that fame, such as getting herself into Maria Shiver's annual women's conference. Invited as a guest speaker to the renowned event, the reality star will be appearing in Sacramento this October.
According to The Associated Press, Kate will be joining the ranks of other featured personalities. These include Cindy McCain, Elizabeth Edwards, Katie Couric, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and actress Kelly Preston. Still, it's likely that the octuplet mom will be the one who'll haul in the most attention.
Kate Gosselin actually received the invite five months ago, prior to the announcement that she and Jon were splitting up. California's first lady chose the TLC star as one of her guests simply because it was suggested by her teenage daughters, who are fans of the series.
"I think her life has certainly changed dramatically, but so be it," Shriver told the publication. "I think that's the beauty of this conference -- to have Madeleine Albright and Kate Gosselin at the same place."
She described Kate Gosselin as "a real interesting girl" who is struggling to raise eight children. On top of that, she's also coping with "a lost marriage." These are the reasons that led Shriver to extend a hand to the reality television celebrity and call her in.
For the conference, the
Jon and Kate Plus 8 star will be having a minor speaking role. She will supposedly take the stage for about 15 minutes to discuss her current situation, as well as sell her book, "Eight Little Faces: A Mom's Journey."
