The series is about a dysfunctional Southern California family and the arrival of two characters, a man out for revenge and a boy with a passion for learning how to surf. Biography

Jim Beaver was born August 12, 1950 in Laramie, Wyoming. The son of a Christ of Church minister, he attended Fort Worth Christian College from 1967-1968, Oklahoma Christian College from 1971-1972 and Central State University in 1975. He spent five seasons acting with the Dallas Shakespeare Festival. He was also a film critic and columnist for Films in Review magazine from 1976-1984 and was chairman of Theatre West in Los Angeles from 1985-1987.

Vietnam Joe, played by Jim Beaver on John from Cincinnati, is a war veteran who now spends his days fishing off Imperial Beach and smoking pot at his camp by the Tijuana Sloughs. He also sometimes ferries illegal immigrants into town aboard his van.
