
In an effort to maintain its reputation for high-quality original programming, HBO has decided to launch a drama series called
John from Cincinnati that will level with its former heavyweights such as
Six Feet Under,
Sex and the City, and
The Sopranos.
John from Cincinnati, which premiered immediately after
The Sopranos finale on June 10, is described as a multi-layered surf family saga that centers on a strange young man of mysterious origin and his impact in a community and most especially to the Yosts, a dysfunctional family of professional surfers turned society misfits.

Leading the cast is Austin Nichols as the mysterious stranger John. This 27-year old actor is known for his guest appearances on
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,
Six Feet Under and
Deadwood.
Brian Van Holt as Butchie Yost, the son of Mitch and father of the talented Shaun who once rocketed to stardom as a surfer icon. This 37-year old actor has appeared on numerous television shows, including
Martial Law, Love & Money,
Sex and the City, and
Spin City just to name a few. He is also popularly known for playing Sean Cavennaugh on the short-lived series
Threshold.
Bruce Greenwood plays the role of Mitch Yost, the surfer legend who is married to Cissy and father of Butchie. On television, Greenwood has appeared as a regular cast member on
St. Elsewhere,
Knots Landing, and
Nowhere Man.
Ed O'Neill stars as Bill Jacks, a friend of the Yost family who continues to grieve over the loss of his wife Lois. O’Nell is best known for his role as Al Bundy on the sitcom
Married…with Children.
Greyson Fletcher stars as Shaun Yost, the son of Butchie who has an innate talent for surfing. Fletcher is an accomplished athlete who is sponsored by various sporting brands like VANS, RVCA Clothing, SabreVision Sunglasses, Anti-Hero Boards, and Cartel Lowrider Bikes just to name a few.
Rebecca DeMornay stars as Cissy Yost, Mitch’s wife who manages the family’s surf shop and handles Shaun’s upbringing. DeMornay’s film credits include
Identity,
The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, and
Risky Business among others.
Also included in the cast of
John from Cincinnati are Luis Guzman as Ramon, Luke Perry as Linc Stark, and Matt Winston as Barry Cunningham.
Fans can catch this new drama series every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
