A Canadian actor of Jewish-Italian descent, Paulo Costanzo was born on September 21, 1978 in Brampton, Ontario. Best-known for his roles in the sitcom Joey and the comedy movie Road Trip, he’s also performed onstage in Canadian productions of The Good Doctor, Bogeyman, and West Side Story. As a child, both of his legs were broken in a car accident. After graduating from high school, he began acting in various TV series and movies, among them Animorphs, Josie and the Pussycats, 40 Days and 40 Nights, and PSI Factor.
Michael is Joey Tribbiani’s nephew in the
Friends spin-off sitcom Joey, played by Paulo Costanzo. He looks up to his Uncle Joey’s natural ability to date and bed numerous women, due to Michael’s own shyness and insecurity around girls. He is a geek and fan of Star Wars and Star Trek: The Next Generation, yet also a highly intelligent aerospace engineer who specializes in applied thermodynamics and attends the California Institute of Technology. Thus, he’s the polar opposite of his popular yet idiotic uncle, though Michael still considers Joey a streetwise father figure and idol.
