Fans of CBS'
Jericho have been anxiously awaiting the show's return to the small screen, and although no definite date has been set, they can rest assured that the cast and crew have been hard at work to ensure the series will not only keep its small but loyal fan base, but increase their viewer count as well.
“We have to have more viewers, and that is what we hope to do,” series star
Skeet Ulrich told Bullz-eye.com. “We did all of this without the attention of
Entertainment Tonight, without
E!, without any of those guys covering us. I'm very proud of us for being a success when everybody said we were never going to make it. Last year, a year ago, nobody expected us to make it.”
Making it certainly is a big accomplishment for CBS'
Jericho, considering the post-apocalyptic drama is one of the few series in television history that was brought back from cancellation. The show's resurrection was brought about by the great effort of its fans, who launched a save-the-show campaign that made CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler the recipient of tons of bags of nuts and thousands of emails.
“I can't thank them enough,” Ulrich said of
Jericho's fans. “It has been unbelievable the amount of support… I wasn't aware of how many fans we had… to see this uprising really bolstered us all and made us think maybe we did make something that touched people.”
On
Jericho, Ulrich plays Jake Green, son of town mayor Johnston Green (
Gerald McRaney) who died of a gunshot wound in last season's finale. His father's death has led Jake to transition from being under his father's authority to becoming a leader himself.
“Well, I think that's part of the challenge of the character, and in finding the way to sustain that art,” Ulrich told Bullz-eye.com. “That's primarily what [executive producer] Carol [Barbee] had talked about the character being, anyway: for him to be the ne'er-do-well who becomes a leader. I think it is more interesting to see the challenges that he will face and to see those uncertainties in him...and, yet, he still has to step up to the plate.”
Skeet Ulrich also said that fans will see more of Jake and
Lennie James' Hawkins working together in the upcoming season of Jericho, as the two become partners.
“Lennie and I were talking [about] how the characters really know nothing about each other. He knows what he has read about me in a file, but in terms of, ‘Well, what's your middle name,' we don't really know anything about each other, so there is a lot of interesting growth to happen in those relationships,” he said.
