“Mac & Charlie Die” is all about the return of Mac's (
Rob McElhenney) convicted felon father, Luther, played by Gregory Scott Cummins. He first appeared on
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in the episode "Dennis and Dee Get a New Dad," where Mac and Charlie (
Charlie Day) visited him in prison in attempt to bond with him, and played a larger role in "Dennis Looks Like a Registered Sex Offender," where he was out on parole convincing Mac to help him "take care of some people," who were on his “list,” which included Mac and Charlie's names. Thinking that he'll be endangering others, the gang called the police on Luther, who was actually making amends with everyone who was on the list. Unfortunately, Luther was still arrested since the terms of his parole did not permit him travel outside of the state. It was also found that he had purchased airline tickets to Cooperstown as Mac had suggested. Mac apologized for turning him in and the episode came to a close with Luther saying that he now actually has a reason to kill him.
In the first part of “Mac & Charlie Die,” Mac's revenge-obsessed father is released from prison so Mac and Charlie fake their own deaths to save their lives. Meanwhile, Dennis and Frank (
Danny DeVito) discover a “Glory Hole” in Paddy's Pub and Dee (
Kaitlin Olson) confronts a bus driver when she refuses to step behind the painted line.
At 10:30pm,
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia continues with the second part of “Mac & Charlie Die,” which features Frank, Dee and Dennis as they find unique ways of dealing with the loss of the guys.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs tonight at 10pm on FX.
