The inimitable Megan Mullally is back on the small screen with In The Motherhood, a comedy about, well, motherhood, plus the “importance of family and friends” for mothers while they try to juggle the multiple roles the have to play in their families, work, and love lives.

Mullally, who is best known for drunkard socialite Karen Walker on Will and Grace, headlines the cast of the ABC series, joined by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Cheryl Hines and Worst Week’s Jessica St. Clair.  In The Motherhood was based on a popular web series of the same name that chronicles the lives of the three mothers as inspired by real-life experiences of viewers shared through ABC’s website.

In The Motherhood follows Rosemary (Mullally), Jane (Hines), and Emily (St. Clair) whose travails and problems we can easily associate with real-life mothers.

Rosemary is described as a “free-wheeling mom who plays it fast and loose when it comes to parenting teenaged son, Syd.”  She was married several times but is now single.  Don’t underestimate her, though, since her “non-traditional” parenting style has produced a responsible individual in Syd.  Her best friend Jane, meanwhile, is a recently divorced working mother of two, pre-teen Annie and baby girl Sophie.  She’s struggling to keep things in place with the help of her “manny” Horatio (Saturday Night Live’s Horatio Sanz).  Lastly, Jane’s younger sister Emily is the model stay-at-home-super-mom of two kids, Esther and Bill. In contrast to Rosemary, Emily takes parenting very seriously – which shows, since her kids grew up polite and sweet.

As one of the latest edition to the cast of In The Motherhood, Sanz’ character Horatio thinks Jane’s baby is the only person who really “gets” him as the two communicate via sign language.

Comedian and talk show host Chelsea Lately was part of the original web series but had to drop out of the project due to scheduling commitments with her E! show Chelsea Lately.
