CBS has announced that Neil Patrick Harris will host the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards this year, which is set to air on Sunday, September 22. This is the How I Met Your Mother
star's second time taking up the reigns as Emmys host following his first stint in 2009.
"I couldn't be more honored and excited to be hosting this year's Emmy Awards," Harris said in a press release. "And what perfect timing -- I'll just do the exact same script I'm about to use for the Tonys. 'And the Emmy for Best Revival of a Musical goes to Breaking Bad
!' See, told you it works."
He's referring to his hosting duties for the Tony Awards coming up on June 9, an awards show that he's previously hosted three other times, two of which he won Emmy Awards for.
Executive producer Ken Ehrlich added, "Neil is one of the most versatile artists currently working in television. It's going to be great fun to utilize his acting, hosting, musical and producing talents on the Emmys, an event designed to showcase all of the elements that combine to make great television."
Choosing Neil Patrick Harris for the Emmys is an obvious choice, and not just because he's starring on one of CBS' own sitcoms. At this point, he's their go-to guy to host award shows. And the last time he presided over the Emmys, the network saw an an increase in ratings.
As someone who's not only an actor, but also a singer, a magician and anything else in entertainment that you can think of, this year's show is sure to be filled with lots of humor and music. Check out his opening musical number from the 2009 telecast:
