In line with the fifth season premiere of How I Met Your Mother on September 21, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will be releasing season 4 of the CBS comedy hit series on Blu-Ray Disc and DVD on September 29.
The fourth season of How I Met Your Mother, which aired from September 22, 2008 through May 18, 2009, consists of 24 installments ---all of which are included in the three-disc set. Season 4 picks up from Ted's (Josh Radnor) marriage proposal to Stella (Sarah Chalke) in the third season cliffhanger and continues following Ted, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and the rest of the gang through their hilarious misadventures. Some of the highlights of the season include Ted losing his job and starting his own company, Barney celebrating his 200th female conquest and Robin (Cobie Smulders) moving to Japan.
Guest stars include Barney's Mother, (Frances Conroy of
Six Feet Under), Ted's college ex-girlfriend (Laura Prepon of
That 70's Show) and Regis Philbin, as himself.
Aside from the fourth season episodes, the
How I Met Your Mother three-disc set includes special features, commentaries and gag reels. Among those to watch out for are Barney Stinson: That Guy's Awesome Music Video, "The Naked Man" with Chuck Tatham, Joe Kelly and Josh Radnor, Eriksen's Fight Club and "A Night With Your Mother" (Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Panel Discussion).
Meanwhile, here are some updates to prep you for
How I Met Your Mother season 5, which returns with Ted teaching an architecture class. It's taken four seasons and several misses to get this close to the mystery woman of the show but it's all worth the wait. And while we won't actually learn the identity of the mother of Ted's children anytime soon, series co-creator Carter Bays hints, "Oh, she'll be there, in the first scene of the first episode back is Ted and the mom in the same room together."
Given that Ted teaches in a huge lecture hall, that could mean anything. But there's comfort in knowing that the show has narrowed the field tremendously. "Up until this point, this woman was somewhere out there in the greater New York metropolitan area. Now, she's in a fifteen-block radius," says Bays.
Additionally,
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello hints that after the "legendary" fourth season finale in which Robin reciprocates Barney's feelings for her, "Robin and Barney resist their friends' pressure that they should have 'the talk' about their relationship. Meanwhile, a panicky Ted, about to face his first college class, decides he must keep control of his students by releasing his 'inner douche' -- a tactic that backfires miserably."
Last but not the least, season 5 also has that
unusual plot that almost plays out like a horror movie. According to co-creator Craig Thomas, "Suspenseful ominous music is playing and at any point Ted can round a corner and run into the mother. It's been a really nice engine for writing the season so far."
