It's the end of an era as How I Met Your Mother prepares for its big finish, and now CBS has set the date for the show's series finale. How I Met Your Mother will end Monday, March 31 with a one-hour send-off at 8pm.

The early finish means the final season will run with very few repeats. When HIMYM comes back starting January 13, it will run every week with new episodes except for two weeks in February when it will be in repeats against the Winter Olympics.

The end of HIMYM will also pave the way for a new Monday night line-up on CBS. The new comedy Friends with Better Lives, starring James Van Der Beek and Entourage's Kevin Connolly, will join the current crop of shows. It will get a special premiere after the HIMYM finale at 9pm, and then move to its new regular time slot, 8:30pm, the following week on April 7.

Starting Monday, April 14, 2 Broke Girls will anchor the evening at 8pm, followed by Friends with Better Lives, Mike and Molly and Mom.

How I Met Your Mother has several big episodes planned for its final run in 2014. It starts off with the return of the Slap Bet in the January 13 installment, and the show's epic 200th episode will air January 27. The episode, titled "How Your Mother Met Me," will be largely focused on the Mother, played by Cristin Milioti.

Be sure to check out the final season of How I Met Your Mother Mondays at 8pm and get ready to say goodbye to Ted, Barney, Robin, Marshall and Lily.
