Stars Keeping Busy Out of 'House'

House It's a little over three months and counting till we get fresh doses of House, which is set to return with its fifth season on Tuesday, September 16 at 8pm.  It leads the way for J.J. Abrams' latest offering, Fringe, which makes its time period premiere that same night.  The highly touted new series from the creator of cult favorites Alias and Lost makes its special two-hour debut the week before on September 9.

For the time being, House cast members have been keeping busy with their own film projects, either with post-production or actual filming.  Here's a roll call of what some House regulars are working on right now.

At the top of the list is Dr. Gregory House himself, Hugh Laurie.  The man, who just recently landed fourth in Radio Times' list of British actors with the worst American accents, is currently in production on Monsters vs. Aliens.  Laurie lends his voice to the character of Dr. Cockroach PhD in the upcoming Dreamworks offering, set to hit theaters March 27, 2009.

Jennifer Morrison, who plays Allison Cameron on House, is also in what likewise promises to be an interesting flick.  She essays the role of Winona Kirk, mother of the first captain of the Enterprise, James T. Kirk (shiver me timbers – imagining Morrison as William Shatner's mom).  Being a certified Trekkie or Trekker, that's something I'm personally looking forward to.

Among House's newer crop of cast members, Olivia Wilde, nondescriptly known as Thirteen on the series, is in post-production for Year One, set for release next year, and in which she plays Princess Inanna.

Speaking of Wilde, she told Variety this month about how she and fellow House newbies, Kal Penn and Peter Jacobson, felt like they were also on an internship much like their characters onscreen.

"It was kind of helpful for the work we were doing that our own lives were paralleling it so much," Wilde remarked.  "It ended up being kind of an eight-episode audition.  We all felt very lucky to have any shot, knowing if we got to stay it would be a huge life change, an amazing job."
