houseOlivia Wilde has joined the cast of House in fall 2007, playing a recurring character nicknamed Thirteen who will work closely with Dr. House.  After 11 episodes, she has signed on as a regular, returning tonight on the FOX medical drama as part of the new diagnostic team.

Just like her character Thirteen who competed with other young doctors for a limited number of spots on the medical team of Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), Wilde reveals that she and the other newbies weren't also sure which of them would be selected to become regulars.

“We all had different deals, so we knew we had a certain number of episodes, but we didn't know beyond that point who would stay and who would go,” Wilde said.  “Once it got to that point where we were having to wait until the next script to see who would disappear, it became an interesting environment.  What was so great about our group is that no one approached it in a negative way. The only way to deal with that kind of tension in the air was to joke about it constantly.

For Wilde, the audition process was great and enjoyable because it pushed her to prove herself and not take any moment for granted.

“We felt that we were constantly having to prove ourselves, which means that we were all probably working harder than we would have been otherwise,” she added.

Fans can catch Wilde as she joins the rest of the main ensemble of House tonight in the episode "No More Mr. Nice Guy," which is the first post-strike episode following a two-month hiatus.  In this much awaited installment, a skeptical House questions a patient's sunny disposition as the team tries to get to the bottom of his illness.

Currently on its fourth season, House airs every Monday at 9pm on FOX.
