'House' Fan Columnist: I Heart House- A Short Tour of Fan Shrines
For my birthday this year, I received one of the most unique gifts I've ever received.  A friend who knows me and my deep love for House, (and especially Hugh Laurie) got me a custom-made House/Cuddy tote back, a Hugh Laurie before-House kit, including Jeeves and Wooster, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and All or Nothing at All, five small Hugh Laurie pins, and to top it off, a pair of underwear with Laurie's face on it.

I am well aware that this makes me sound like a crazy fan, but keep in mind, someone bought it all for me and I haven't worn the underwear.  Yet.

Now, I've managed to stumble upon many inimitable tributes to the show's characters, actors and storylines in my limited year and a half of being a fan, but I wanted to share some of the shrines to House that range from creative to obsessive to freaky.  In no particular order:

Fan Videos

With the advent of youtube.com, everyone thinks they're a visionary.  People put clips from House to music to create a storyline they want, center on a particular "ship" they love or invent short films to bash other fans.

(In case you're wondering, a "ship" is a particular pairing of characters that people are rooting for to get involved romantically.  I ship Huddy.  Obviously.)

A couple worth watching:

All about Huddy

And for those who are into the Bromance

Fan Fiction

If you're out of the loop, fan fiction is writing by fans about their favorite characters.  Here's a primer. And for fiction dedicated to House, try this

Fan drawings

Not a writer? Check out fan art. Here is a YouTube video demonstrating an artist doing a time-lapsed drawing. And a wee Huddy drawing

Fan Forums/Discussion Boards

Fans can also find a place to either vent their frustrations or endorse their character's decisions and actions.  It's also a place for people to post fan fiction or discuss what's coming up on the show.  The best part about the fan forum is that anyone can join.  The worst part about the fan forum is that anyone can join.  Free speech reigns.

So what do most of these fan shrines have in common?  People love the show so much that they want some level of control over their favorite characters.  With drawings, blogs, videos and fan fiction, people can manipulate their beloved characters into whatever positions they want (including some rather bizarre sexual ones).
Anyone have any other good recommendations?  Good fan fic?  Great videos?  Post below.  Or rant about how insane/devoted fans are.  Either way, just comment!
