David Morse, a recurring character on
House, will be featured in the seven-part HBO miniseries
John Adams. Based on David McCullough’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of John Adams, the series features the life of the nation’s second president and first vice president.
Aside from his role on
House as Detective Michael Tritter, David Morse has appeared on television series like
Hack,
Homicide: Life on the Street and
St. Elsewhere. In the big screen, he has worked in
The Green Mile,
The Negotiator, and
Diary of a City Priest.
In
John Adams, the
House actor will be taking on the role of George Washington, the first President of the United States. He joins Paul Giamatti (
Man on the Moon) as John Adams and Laura Linney (
The Truman Show) as Abigail Adams. The miniseries also features Stephen Dillane (
Angels in America) as Thomas Jefferson, Rufus Sewell (
Middlemarch) as Alexander Hamilton, and Justin Theroux (
Sex and the City) as John Hancock.
Directed by Tom Hooper, the miniseries will account the first 50 years of the American Republic told through the eyes of Adams’ wife, Abigail. In addition, it will also explore the love story between Adams and his wife, as well as the tumultuous relationship between fellow patriot Thomas Jefferson.
The biopic, which is currently filming, spans several locations in Virginia, including the Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area. Subsequently, production will move to various sites in Europe.
This is reportedly the largest project ever filmed in Williamsburg and in all of Virginia. In line with this, the economic impact of the tele-film has reached more than $60 million. Apart from the positive economic impact in its filming locations, the miniseries also attempts to heighten public interest in American history and encourage tourism.
Produced by Gary Goetzman, David Coatsworth and Tom Hanks, John Adams is slated for release in 2008.
