Lisa Edelstein as Lisa Cuddy
Lisa Cuddy of FOX's medical drama,
House, is played by Lisa Edelstein. The Dean of Medicine and hospital administrator at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, she began her career at the University of Michigan, where she met Gregory House, her future colleague. At the age of 25, she graduated medical school as second best in her class, later becoming the first woman and second youngest Dean of Medicine.
When House was diagnosed with an infarction in his right leg, Cuddy became his attending doctor. Due to his persistence that his leg should not be amputated, Cuddy decided to just cut out the dead muscle. However, this procedure was not a sure shot for him to walk again, but they pushed through with it anyway. House soon recovered but he still has a lingering pain on his leg due to the operation.
Cuddy and House have chemistry together, as the two once shared a one night stand. Shortly after he was hired at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, House was often reminded by Cuddy to finish his required hours of duty and stay away from any legal trouble he may cause.
During the second half of season 2, it was revealed that Cuddy had plans of having a baby. As her little secret, she asked out her colleague, Dr. James Wilson for dinner, which was in fact a screening if he would pass her standards of being the father of her baby. Being House's best friend, Wilson told him all about the supposed date, and House became suspicious. He later sneaked into her office and got her trash can. He rummaged through it until he found Red Clover, which confirmed his theories. House then confronted Cuddy, who admitted that she was indeed taking Red Clover and that she did want to have a baby.
Cuddy opted for a pregnancy through in-vitro fertilization, but in order to do that, she needed to have injections twice a day. She asked House to do it for her, and he accepted the favor, subsequently keeping their secret from Wilson. Despite her efforts, though, she failed to conceive a child.
Season 3 brought a new challenge upon Cuddy as Michael Tritter threatened House's career. A court hearing took place and Cuddy decided to protect House, even if it risked her career. She committed perjury at the hearing, despite being under oath. She falsified some documents and claimed that she thwarted House's attempts at stealing oxycodone from a dead patient by supposedly replacing the pills with placebo because she knew House was in a vulnerable state. House later won the case, and the judge said that he had greater friends than he ever deserved, as Cuddy and Wilson did everything in their power to help save House.
