Claire Danes returns to TV! She will star in Showtime's new drama Homeland
as CIA agent Carrie Anderson, who believes that an American soldier (Damian Lewis) held as a prisoner of war and recently rescued may be involved in a terrorist scheme in the United States.
Penned by 24
creator and showrunner Howard Gordon, with 24
alumni Gideon Raff and Alex Gansa, Homeland
certainly shares a lot of thematic similarities with the real-time action series that had Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) rescuing the world time and time again. But, we are led to believe, this new drama will be less frantic and have more time to breathe.
So how much breathing room will we get with Homeland
Showtime Orders Kristen Bell, Claire Danes Shows >>
Certainly the cast is very strong, with the aforementioned Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, as well as Mandy Patinkin and Morena Baccarin (for all you Browncoats out there). The pilot was recently screened for critics and the consensus seems to be that Homeland
season 1 has the potential to be the fall's best new drama.
Obviously, fans of political conspiracy movies like The Conversation
and All The President's Men
will have to check out the show. And a decade into the war on terror, the TV landscape certainly has room for a show that examines how we are faring in that regard in the United States. From what we hear, Homeland
season 1 will not be heavily politicized but will lean on suspense and mythology, rather than politics.
