This is going to be a big sci-fi weekend. Friday night Doctor Who returns for its fourth season premiere and Saturday brings the second season finale of Who spin-off Torchwood. Then on Sunday, celebrate with the craziest family on TV as the Walkers return with brand new episode of Brothers and Sisters.

Doctor Who – “Voyage of the Damned”
(Sci Fi Channel, 8:30pm)
Torchwood – “Exit Wounds”
(BBC America, 9pm)

Doctor Who could be the most fun sci-fi ever, anchored by the endlessly charismatic David Tennant as the Doctor. When last we saw the TARDIS, the Doctor parted way with Martha Jones after reversing time to end the Master’s Toclafane invasion. Then the Titanic crashed into the TARDIS. What? This 90-minute –premiere addresses that with special guest star Kyle Minogue.

The next day, Torchwood ends its season with promises of a truly major shift in the series. While not quite as viscerally enjoyable as Who, Torchwood has blossomed into a darkly intriguing spin-off, and with special guest star James Marsters, it’s hard to resist.


Brothers and Sisters – “Separation Anxiety”
(ABC, 10pm)

In the last two years, some of the single best scenes on all of TV take place during Walker family dinners on Brothers and Sisters. One of the most lovingly dysfunctional families around, there’s nothing better than to see a group of talented actors in one well-written, high-pressure scene. In Sunday’s post-strike return, Kitty is still on the campaign trail with Senator McAllister and Rebecca finally takes a DNA test to figure out if she really is a Walker.
